ATSGuard vs Teal: Resume Scanner vs Career OS — Which Do You Actually Need?
Teal positions itself as a career operating system; ATSGuard is a focused resume-vs-JD scanner. They solve different problems. Here's when to use which — including when to use both.
Disclosure
We built ATSGuard. So this comparison is biased. We've tried to write the version a Teal user would find fair — Teal genuinely does things ATSGuard doesn't.
They're different products
Teal is a multi-feature career platform: job tracker, resume builder, AI cover letters, contact tracker, and a JD-vs-resume scanner. The pitch is "manage your whole job search in one app."
ATSGuard is one tool: paste your resume + JD, get a match score and AI-rewritten bullet points in 30 seconds. No job tracker, no resume builder, no cover letter generator. The pitch is "the scanner does one thing well, you keep your job search in whatever you already use."
Comparing them feature-for-feature misses the point. The real question is: do you want a career-OS or a focused tool?
Pricing (as of April 2026)
| Plan | Teal | ATSGuard |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | Job tracker, basic resume builder, 1 free Match | 1 free scan, no signup |
| Paid (Teal+) | $9/week or $79/year | ₹1,499 (~$18) one-time, lifetime unlimited |
| Year-1 cost | ~$79-468 | $18 once |
Teal's annual plan is the deal. The weekly plan is a trap unless you land a job in <3 weeks.
What Teal does that ATSGuard doesn't
- Job application tracker — log every application, status, follow-up dates
- Resume builder — drag-and-drop UI to build a fresh resume
- AI cover letter generator — based on your resume + the JD
- Contact tracker — record networking conversations
- Chrome extension — save jobs from LinkedIn/Indeed in one click
What ATSGuard does that Teal doesn't (or does worse)
- No signup for first scan — Teal requires account creation
- Unlimited scans for one fixed cost — Teal's free tier limits you to 1 scan; paid is recurring
- AI-rewritten bullet points by Claude — Teal highlights missing keywords; you rewrite
- Speed — 30 seconds, no UI to navigate; just paste-paste-result
- No vendor lock-in — your resume isn't inside our app, no migration cost when you stop using us
Pick Teal if:
- You need an app to organize your job search (you're tracking 30+ applications)
- You don't have a resume yet and want to build one inside the tool
- You want one product to do tracking + scanning + cover letters
- You're willing to pay $79/year for the bundle
Pick ATSGuard if:
- You already have a resume and just need to optimize it for specific JDs
- You track applications elsewhere (Notion, spreadsheet, Notion-style tracker)
- You want to pay once, not subscribe
- You're paying in INR and the $/INR conversion makes Teal painful
When to use both
Honestly: there's a real use case here. Use Teal's free tier for job tracking, resume builder, and Chrome extension. Use ATSGuard for the scanning. You'd pay $0 to Teal and $18 once to ATSGuard, and get more than the $9/week Teal+ plan offers.
Try ATSGuard free first
We'd rather have you start with the free scan and decide than have you read marketing copy and guess.
Run a free scan on a real JD. If the result doesn't change how you'd edit your resume, you don't need ATSGuard. If it does, ₹1,499 (~$18) one-time gets you unlimited scans for life.
